Contributes fieldwork expertise to WP3 (Assessing the ecological status of reefs in Greece), applying the ECOfast protocol during diving field expeditions.
Biography
Giulia Pitarra (MSc) is a researcher in Marine Biology. She has been working in the University of the Aegean’s Marine Biodiversity and Ecosystems and Management lab for over two years. Her research activities focus on conservation projects, coral reef restoration actions, and biodiversity assessment. More specifically, her involvement is focused on conservation actions for the endangered fan mussel, Pinna nobilis, for which she regularly participates in field actions involving monitoring, restoration and transplantation of specimens; and for the Mediterranean coral Cladocora caespitosa, for which she has acquired experience in coral reef monitoring and transplantation techniques. Additionally, she’s skilled in ROV piloting, which she contributed to the project NEMO-Tools for the monitoring of gorgonian populations. She regularly participates in various national and European projects involving scientific diving field expeditions, for which she has already experience applying the ECOfast protocol during the project CAMBioMed. In the project CaRe-GR, she will contribute her fieldwork expertise to apply the ECOfast protocols during diving field expeditions, in the context of Work Package 3.
