Biography
Katerina Konsta is a biologist (BSc) and PhD candidate in the Department of Ecology at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki. Her doctoral research focuses on the impacts of climate change and particularly marine heatwaves on biodiversity redistribution patterns and the resilience of Mediterranean marine ecosystems. She has contributed to several European and national research projects. Her expertise includes spatial analysis and ecological modelling using GIS, R, and Python, as well as species distribution modelling, climate vulnerability assessment, marine ecosystem monitoring, and conservation planning. Within CaRe-GR, her work focuses on prioritizing restoration actions for reefs and marine caves. Her work includes coordinating a systematic review of global restoration practices and evaluating their ecological effectiveness, feasibility, and socio-economic implications. She also develops spatial prioritization frameworks for reef and marine cave restoration, considering biodiversity, ecosystem functioning, connectivity, feasibility, and socio-economic costs.
