Biography
Dr. Jennifer Pistevos is a marine ecologist and Post-Doctoral Researcher at the University of the Aegean, specializing in advanced monitoring technologies, environmental stressors, and sensory-behavioural ecology. She holds a PhD in Marine Biology from the University of the Adelaide (2016) and brings extensive management experience from several international and EU-funded initiatives, including managing the Bioboost+ project and assisting in the coordination of the Horizon Europe GuardIAS initiative. Within the CaRe-GR project, Dr. Pistevos leads Work Package 6 (DECO), steering the strategic implementation of the project’s dissemination, knowledge transfer, and stakeholder exploitation pathways. Beyond her leadership in communication, her expert scientific contributions directly support field data collection and processing pipelines. As a PADI MSDT and Scientific Diver, she participates in targeted underwater conservation surveying across the Aegean and Ionian Seas. Her technical core competencies span multi-spectral remote sensing applications, digital imagery workflows, and artificial intelligence configurations for deep learning benthic classifications. Her research integrates natural and social sciences to support systematic conservation planning and reporting obligations under the Marine Strategy Framework Directive (MSFD), Barcelona Convention IMAP, and the EU Nature Restoration Law. She has co-authored 19 peer-reviewed articles (1083 citations, h-index 13) and is fluent in English and Greek.
